These are all self portraits painted from life. I use a large mirror instead of photo reference. I focus on each feature and the subtle shifts in color and temperature within my skin to create an accurate likeness. For me, self portraits are a way to show my technical improvement as well as a way to show a development in my observational skills. Each of these oil paintings are all about one year apart and painted on canvas.
